Match Review: AC Milan vs Sassuolo

Donnarumma - He had an okay game with a few scary moments, goal was well taken by Politano but Gigio could have done a bit better.

Rodriguez - Somewhat reliable, and tried to get forward often, but at times looked awkward when in possession, distribution needs to be better at times.

Musacchio - A decent job coming in for Romagnoli, but his positioning at times allowed Sassuolo to push on rare occasion and was completely lost when he should have been providing support to Bonucci on Politano's goal.

Bonucci - Struggled when Romganoli left the field, still did a decent job for the most part, but like Musacchio was caught napping on Politano's goal.

Abate - Hasn't played for a while and the rust showed. Struggled to offer much link up play and it seems his age has caught up to him as we never really got a glimpse of that pace of his.

Biglia - He looked tired and struggled with playing any sort of decisive ball when Milan were pressing. Defensively offered support, but also had some scary moments when in the defending third.

Bonaventura - Until he forced a great save from Consigli, Jack had a terrible game. Looked sluggish and lost possession a few times without tracking back, his passing and decisions were poor.

Kessie - Was one of the best players on the field, but should have done much better with his chance at the beginning of the game. Works hard and forced turnovers when Sassuolo were in possession, excellent movement and defensive work, just lacked that killer instinct like the rest of his teammates.

Calhanoglu - Poor from the Turkish international. Offered nothing going forward, passing let him down and even his signature strikes were off, had a few too many moments slipping all over the field.

Suso - He has come to be know as Milan's most dangerous player, but the Spaniard had also become to be predictable with his movements. Down the right and cut in to his left, unfortunately he couldn't manage a decent strike nor any deliveries in to the 18.

Cutrone - Offered little, but also given little service. Struggled with his movements to receive the ball in open channels, but at his age he is still learning, needs to hold up play and lay off needs to be better.

Kalinic - Provided a crucial goal with a nice turn and strike. Should have done better with his header which could have been the winner. Overall provided a game changing presence.

Overall analysis:

This game told me 2 things. 1) Milan were tired from their 2 previous games. 2) They lack that true playmaker to change a game. Sassuolo were 11 men behind the ball all game and created nothing, aside from their goal. A team that sits that far back for 90 minutes has to be punished by a long range strike or a spark of creativity either dribbling through players or playing that determining pass. Coming off 2 tough games Milan did well with their pressing game and possession game, but at the end of the day, struggled to find that breakthrough and only really attempted to find an opening after going a goal down.
